Portable Thermal Imager

Hotspot and fire detection in bunkers/hoppers/
silos and plant integrity checking

Pulverized coal stored in bunkers and silos is highly susceptible to fire. Use the thermal imager around the plant to check for hot spots in coal bunkers, silos and hoppers. In addition, check all electrical and mechanical devices for wear, poor or failing insulation. A highly useful addition to any predictive maintenance programme, the portable thermal imager is invaluable around any plant.

Features and Benefits
Fire detection using highly accurate thermography
Detect sub-surface smouldering
Ideal for spot checks on inactive silos and bunkers
Locate hotspots inside the silo or bunker
Check all vulnerable plant quickly and easily
High resolution thermal image for clear fire identification

Problems of stagnant coal
The ‘funnel flow’ design of most bunkers, results in the hopper walls being too shallow or rough for the coal to flow - thus creating stagnant areas. The ‘first in - last out’ movement of the coal leads to oxidations and subsequent combustion in the stagnant coal. Checking the thermal integrity of the bunker or silo using a thermal camera can locate these stagnant areas; and detect hotspots (caused by an insulation breakdown) before a fire has started.

Dealing with Mill downtime
When a mill is undergoing emergency or routine maintenance, the movement of pulverized coal in the bunkers and silos is slow or even static. Extended periods of stagnation increases the oxidation process and the risk of spontaneous combustion. Spot checks using a thermal imager can pinpoint hot spots in the silo wall, often well below the top level of coal.
Portable Thermal imagers are ideally suited to hot spot and fire detection around the plant.
