The CDA incinerator thermometer is intended for measurement of the atmosphere temperature in waste incinerators. The CDA thermometer can be used for gas or flame temperature measurement in a variety of other plant situations provided there is a sufficient path length. The non contact infrared thermometer reading is unaffected by cold CO2 so it will “ see through” a cold combustion atmosphere to measure a hot atmosphere beyond.

In an incinerator it can be pictured as an “invisible thermocouple” extending into the atmosphere above the bed by perhaps 2m/6.5ft (penetration depth depends on atmosphere conditions). In use it is fitted wholly external to the incinerator, usually to a flanged tube penetrating the wall.
The CDA incinerator thermometer fits the standard LAND System 4 thermometer mounting accessories and protection jackets which can be air or water-cooled. The sighting tube should normally be air-purged.
The incinerator thermometer operates on a simple 2-wire loop connection and outputs a 4 to 20mA signal linear with temperature.
The thermometer reading is insensitive to the presence of gases other than CO2 and is relatively insensitive to particulate matter in the atmosphere - i.e. it measures true gas temperature.
As an approximate guide, good measurements are possible for temperatures above 600°C/1112°F, at CO2 concentrations above 4% and for path lengths of a few metres. At higher temperatures lower concentrations and/or shorter paths can be measured.
